Johnny Adkins

Johnny F. Adkins, 73, of Norris City passed away at 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at Shawnee Christian Village in Herrin, IL.  He was born December 24, 1945 in Oak Ridge, TN the son of Leon and Ruby (Webb) Adkins.  John married Patsy M. Harvey on August 4, 1968.  He was drafted out of high school and into the United States Marine Corp.  John served during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart.  He had worked in the oil field many years along with being an EMT.  John was a member of First Baptist Church in Norris City.  He loved to garden, music and attend yard sales along with being an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy; two daughters, Jennifer Lea (Angela Rogers) Adkins of Murphysboro, IL and Janna (Chris) Wright of Herrin, IL; a son, Johnathan Adkins of Norris City; three step grandchildren, Dustin, Christian and Alex Rogers; special grandchildren, Lyla Bolin, Abel Bowles, Jasmine Allen, Bradon Edwards and Dakota and Donovan Bowles; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Scott Adkins and two sisters, Joann Lawrence and Betty (Roy Lee) Merks.

Funeral services for Johnny F. Adkins, 73, of Norris City will be at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with full military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW.  Private burial will be held at a later date in Herald Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.  Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to Campbell Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
