Jerry Simmons

Jerry Dean Simmons, 77, of Carmi passed away on Sunday October 18, 2020 at Wabash Christian Village.  He was born on August 6, 1943 the son of William and Anna Marie (Westergard) Simmons.  Jerry married Connie Marie King on February 14, 1965 and she survives.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and served until 1970  and then served in the Reserves until 1974. He retired after 32 years of service at GTE and Verizon. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed everything from hunting and fishing to playing golf.

Jerry is survived by his wife Connie Simmons; one sister, RoseAnne (Milton) Stewart and one sister-in-law, Dee (Jerry) Byrd;  three nieces, Susan (Adam) Brown, Sherry Simmons, and Connie Stewart; two nephews, Scott (Jennifer) Simmons, Doug (Debbie) Simmons; one sister; extended family, Steve and Karlene Garrett and Adam (Laura) Garrett and their son Lincoln. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and Bill Simmons and his sister, Suzie Simmons.

Funeral Services for Jerry Dean Simmons will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Campbell Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church or Wabash Christian Village and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.  In accordance with CDC and State recommendations, social distancing will be observed and masks will be required.
