Obituary

      The sun rose on Henry "Joe" Melton on May 7, 1942 when he was born to Howard Robert Melton and Jean (Harmon) Melton. The sun set for Henry "Joe" Melton on February 24, 2021.  He was 78 years old. His family is grateful for those 78 years of love, life and laughter they were blessed to share with him.  Joe was a long time resident of Carmi, Illinois. There was/is a lot of love between Joe and his family.  He took pride for each and everyone. He was a true jokester and often said " You gotta laugh." He touched many peoples lives and was always willing to give advice or lend a hand when he could.

      He is survived by one sister, Mary Scott and her husband Tim Scott, as well as his daughter, Jeanene Stout; a grandson, Damian Johnson and two great grand-daughters, Kaydan and Elizabeth Johnson.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as life long friend Betty Seals of Anna, Illinois and her family.  He is preceded in death by both of his parents, three brothers, Vernon, Clinton and Joy Melton as well as two sisters, Kathy Friemiller and Brenda Rowe.

      Graveside services and burial for Henry "Joe" Melton will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven.  Memorial contributions can be made in Joe's memory  to the American Heart Association, and will be accepted at Carmi Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.   In accordance with CDC and IDPH regulations, social distancing will be observed and wearing masks will be required.
